fuck yahoo*

so, i'm not making a political or scientific statement here, at all--i'm just saying that when i turn on the internet, THIS QUAINT LITTLE STORY THAT POPPED UP ON THE YAHOO HOME-PAGE-THING-THING is MOST DEFINITELY NOT WHAT I WANT TO SEE.

i'm just saying.

so, on that note...

****

dear yahoo,
why don't you just put a big red blinking sign on your home-page-thing-thing that says 'attention people! you will all be dead soon!'
seriously.
perhaps you weren't aware of this before, but i do not deal well with scary things such as doom's day clocks which are being sped up.
i'm pretty sure i already exist in a constant state of near-nervous-breakdownness, so if you could just keep that in mind, that would be great.
thanks,
tiffany

*ok, i'm sorry that i just had to say 'fuck' to you. and in the title, no less.
if you've been reading this blog for a while, you may have noticed that i've been saying 'fuck' a lot less than i used to. i mean, i haven't given it up altogether--i've just been using it less. but seriously. it seemed appropriate in this case.

I completely agree with you. Nothing bothers me more than doomsday conversations, apocolypse stories in church, etc. If its the end, we'll know it. We don't need to be reminded of it constantly.

I'm getting pretty sick of the alarmist attitude in this country as well. Good post!

LOL I got that too and thought it was quite offensive!

I didn't see the clock...but now I feel stress and panic just thinking about it. Also, Aimee's a little bit hippie-ish??? Ha. I could never be as cool as a hippie, but thanks! That Amy chick who looks a little like me is awesome!

I LOVE the Doomsday Clock! I was first made aware of it by a Physics professor back in 1984 (I was still in high school but doing a special summer program at Carnegie-Mellon the summer before my Senior year) who was also a member of the Union of Concerned Scientists. The Doomsday Clock makes an important point, the same point it has made for the 60 years since it was created: we are on the edge, have been very close to the edge since scientists made the mistake of giving the military weapons that are capable of destroying the world, or at least civilization - but our fate is not sealed. The hands move back and forth to remind us of that. 1991 was a very good year, when the hands were moved as far away from midnight as they have been since the clock was instituted. We can turn back the clock - well, maybe not with the present Administration, but we can still turn back the clock.

Plus, you've gotta love the Martin Rees quote "A global village will have its village idiots"!

if the doomsday clock can be in any way manipulated by me either using or not using the word 'fuck,' then i think we had all better duck and cover right now.

p.s.
i don't think that i'm 'F-bombing everyone.'
i think i'm using the same language that i've always used on my blog, which absolutely not one soul on the planet is forced to read. i have recently decided to make and effort to not say the 'eff-word' quite SO often, but i don't think i want to stop using it altogether.

not because it makes me happy to offend people--that's not it at all.
it's just that, it also doesn't make me happy to pretend to be something that i'm not.
the 'F-word' doesn't automatically offend me, most of the time.

i'm offended by statements of biggotry and intolerance and hatred almost everyday (sad, but true)--but the use of the word 'fuck' doesn't automatically offend me.

so, while i respect anyone and everyone's right to shudder a little when they hear or read that word, i must also respect my right to use it in this forum, which only exists out of my desire to express MYSELF creatively.

this has been a public service announcement, by tiffany.

I don't think I could have said it any better. In fact it's basically exactly what I would have said.

The only time I am bothered by the work fuck is when it's said loosly and loudly around kids. Because it's bad you ask? No, because if they then go and say it in front of their parents their gonna get spanked. Which I don't want.

Other than that one instance I see no reason to be so afraid of a word that really brings me joy (when used as a verb of course).

So fuck all, and be merry.

ha.
you just said you like 'the word' when it is used as a verb, and then you said "f*#@ all.'

you're a slut.

but i love you anyway.

oh, i also wanted to say that my little explanation of the usage of the word in question isn't directed at pete, specifically. while pete made his views on the word known, it is easy to see that there are many people who would agree with him.

he, and they, are aboslutely entitled not only to have that opinion, but also to share it here.

it just so happens that pete is the person who said something--still, my response is not singularly directed at him.
it's just an explanation. for whatever it's worth.

well, i think i better explain my thoughts, which were clearly not understood. i said "f-bombing" thinking mostly of the BOMBING part. as in we should stop bombing. it was a play on words.

i was in no way making a statement about how you're totally going to hell for using that word.* i was encouraging you to better yourself in the way that you set out to do.

*please note i am again joking here.
